Traditional Chinese Medicine

What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be described as a complete healing system. One of the key elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the fundamental belief that the body has an extraordinary ability to heal itself. Traditional Chinese Medicine helps to promote this self healing by combining traditional acupuncture with other TCM techniques such as herbal formulas, cupping, moxibustion, heat lamps and meridian massage.
One of the main differences between Traditional Chinese Medicine and western-style medicine is TCM’s focus on the body as a complex system of bodily fluids, organs, and energy flow. Treatment does not focus only on the one area that is causing discomfort; the many different techniques address the entire body to restore balance to the entire system. A treatment might incorporate many different techniques in one session, as well as many different body parts (albertaacupuncture.ca).
